Molly & John : Raleigh, NC
Happy New Year everyone!! Throughout 2016, we’ve had the pleasure of working with some truly incredible couples from all over North Carolina! First up: Molly and John in Raleigh!
Where do we even start with how awesome Molly and John are?! These two are college sweethearts who vowed to grow old together. There’s nothing sweeter. They are both also very warm and caring individuals, and together make one of the most solid, yet fun-loving and adorably in love couples we have ever been around. They are just the kind of people who we love to create wedding films for – truly why we love what we do!
Molly and John live in Washington DC, but gathered all their friends and family together in Raleigh, Molly’s hometown, for their marriage celebration. The rehearsal dinner was hosted at the City Club downtown. Guests enjoyed dinner, drinks, toasts, and some spectacular views of the city from the 28th floor. Our favorite part was meeting Molly and John’s families, who instantly welcomed us. Everyone was so kind and hospitable, and said the sweetest things during the toasts. We especially enjoyed meeting Molly’s identical twin sister, Kristina. This was our first time filming a wedding where the bride is a twin, so the experience of capturing their close relationship as sisters was really special for us!
On the wedding day, we first met up with John and the groomsmen for their luncheon at The Raleigh Times. This unique bar is the former home of the city’s newspaper, and old press clippings and cultural artwork cover the walls. It was a really cool space to film John and his friends relaxing and hanging out before all the events of the day began. These guys have been friends since elementary school, even though they have all chosen very different paths in life – a testament to the level of commitment and loyalty that John brings to his relationship with Molly. Next it was off to the Merrimon-Wynne House to meet with Molly and the bridesmaids. This was our first time filming at this charming historic estate, and we were blown away at how beautiful everything is and how perfect it was not only for Molly’s preparations, but also for the reception in the carriage house later that night. Filming Molly with her bridesmaids, we could really see how much everyone cherishes their relationship with her. During their toasts, Molly’s sister and brother described her as a generous, thoughtful and passionate person, and we saw many examples of this throughout the day. Before the ceremony began at Peace University Chapel, Molly and John exchanged gifts and letters behind a door so they would not see each other. Only moments away from saying their vows, their excitement and anticipation just filled the room!
The ceremony was led by Molly’s childhood pastor, a friendly and cheerful man with a profound marriage message. He spoke about the values that centenarians still happily married have upheld in their marriage, and then readers shared bible verses chosen by Molly and John’s grandparents as a blessing for the couple. The presence of the grandparents was one of the most touching parts of the day. Molly and John not only adore them, but have a deep sense of admiration for them. During her toast at the rehearsal dinner, Molly mentioned that their parents were celebrating 30+ years of marriage, and their grandparents were celebrating 60+ years. The legacy of faith, commitment and eternal love that they have begun is such a strong foundation for Molly and John to build their marriage upon!
After the ceremony, guests returned to the Merrimon-Wynne House to enjoy cocktails and music by the talented jazz quartet Table 5. When it was time for the reception to begin, everyone gathered in the elegant carriage house just across the lawn. Molly and John made their grand entrance and immediately kicked off the epic dance party that would unfold long into the night. John and his mom swing danced to “Blue Suede Shoes” and Molly and her dad danced to a live violin performance of “Tale As Old As Time”. And then, as if the day couldn’t get any better – Molly and John had their first dance – at first they slow-danced to a sweet acoustic cover of Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back”, but then broke out into a hilarious routine for the original version of the song. Molly is by far one of the best dancers we have filmed, and her and John’s natural ability to just let loose and be silly with one another was enchanting to film. Their energy was contagious and made for a very fun and entertaining night of dancing and memories being made every which way we looked!
We are so happy to have shared the day with some of Raleigh’s finest, including the talented team at Sally Oakley Weddings & Events, Carolyn and Geoff of Carolyn Scott Photography and DJ Randy from Bunn DJ Company!
